Aussie Alert!

I've been informed by friends living "Down Under" that DriveTime will be featured on this week's episode of Beyond Tomorrow, the Australian science and technology program. It airs Wednesday night in Australia, which is who-knows-when in Boston (some time on Tuesday?!) I welcome any reviews from Australian residents.

Long-time DriveTime viewers will remember when Kim Watkins took a ride in Studio-A last November.

Update:
Read the official preview description on the Yahoo7 page (note the reference to the "ageing Audi").

We hear you ravi… . We are watching your episodes but the bandwidth allocation to this part of the world from your servers are quite narrow, some times it take up to 45min. so how about publish a low resolution edit or Divx format edit.

Don't..

Ravi said...

Niran? Are you okay?! I hope you didn't knocked out in mid-comment...

In general, what you get *is* the low-resolution edit. I try to siphon down the data rate and frame rate to make the video files a little smaller.

Hi! Anna here from Sydney. Just saw you on TV. Well done! Couldn't download the video as it took too long, but for 5 mins on prime time TV you would expect to pay close to US $20,000....so good work! Plus you got the reporter to fly over there especially (from what it looked like). I think it is cool when everyday people do stuff that is so appealing to so many :)

Hey, You could sound a little excited about being distracted in a car driving crazy streets of Boston whilst avoiding collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians.
First you couldn't drink in a car, then use mobile phones or get a headjob...watch out moving video bloggers!!! you are next!!!

G'day to all new Aussie viewers!

And thanks for the insights and "fresh" comments about DriveTime. I was previously thinking I really wanted to see the Beyond Tomorrow segment on DriveTime, but after reading these comments, I think I want to see the segment with the coffee lid invention!

Forget videoblogging -- I'm going into hot beverage lids! ;-)

Thanks for the sleuthing to find the site (and a shame they didn't have the correct URL in the broadcast?) You can also find the episodes through various aggregators (ie. FireAnt, iTunes), but I definitely appreciate the comments here (good and bad!)

We will *definitely* do some sort of shout out to our new mates Down Under in a future episode!

Ravi said...

Thanks David -- you may soon be crowned the official DriveTime publicist. You can tout it better than I can!

To be fair, I think Kim did fine. She had flown from who knows where the day before and still was chipper as can be -- though I did sense some hesitancy from her to shift from interviewer to interviewee.

Anonymous said...

Hey Ravi, did the today tomorrow crew leave you with a few of the extra cameras that they added for you.... to your so called ageing AUDI.

If they didn't its a pitty unaustralian. :x

You might ba able to get a sponsorship deal.....a new audi A4

Your a legend. just watch how many video bloggers start up now. You just got coverage to over I would say quite a few million Australians. :)

Anonymous said...

Hey Ravi,
My names Ebony and Im from Melbourne, Australia. What an awesome way to fill in what would normally be a boring trip to and from work!!! My best friend and i are in Boston on the 5th Jan 2007 for a few days... Would love to take a ride in the "ageing AUDI" for an interview!!! :) keep up the good work!! Youve won a new fan in me... and by the looks of the hits on your site youve won alot of new Aussie fans!!!

Cheers.

Hey mandy here..

I am living in Sydney... What a cool idea.. if i come your way can i be on it??

You did well... I think Aussies think your cool..

Have fun

Anonymous said...

Hey, you're hot.. lots of Aussie women will be trying to get in your pants now..

Ravi said...

ljraggy -- I like your idea of sponsorship... it could be "the new improved Studio-A"!

Hi Ebony -- Boston in January... you do know that we *don't* have summer in January! Check out the Guest FAQ!

thanks for the well wishes mandy -- the aussie outpouring of goodwill is something indeed.

em -- uh... thanks!

Nice work. I watched the episode in Australia and really enjoyed it. I would love to be on your show if I ever meak it down your way.

Anonymous said...

Hello Ravi, Another Aussie to add to your collection.

It's very hard to think of new ideas for websites. It's great to see some fresh ideas still coming out.

I also think the reason why Kim wasn't as interesting as the other guests is because she still had to be the presenter for the TV show, so she probably couldn't be as relaxed and had to have a degree of professionalism.

David: They wouldn't have down played the importance of the guests on purpose, they would have tried to make it sound like a great website, but you can only fit so much in a description. Plus the description is for people who probably wouldn't know the guests as well as people from the same country as this blog.

Once again, great job with the fresh idea Ravi. :D

Anonymous said...

Nice work!

Ravi said...

Cheers wayne, rage, bello and og!

ken -- I'm going to ask to see your Australian passport if you're going to post to this thread! ;-)

What is this Beyond Tomorrow footage you speak of? (ie. "I know nothinggg...") I'm sure there are some enterprising Aussies that may have posted that...

I watched the story and now I'm in to video blogging and podcasting!

I HATE THE PERSON THAT SAYS THEY HATE ANNA!!!! ANNA IS THE BEST!!! Whoever runs this website should get rid of junk comments like that!!!!!

Ravi said...

Paul -- some people might say whoever runs this website should get rid of "junk" comments, while others might say whoever runs this website get rid of people who post in all caps.

But I won't let that happen. I've got your back!
