Episode Twenty-Seven

The comments, votes and suggestions have been tallied and Ravi reveals whether he's with Beard or No Beard. But first, a video comment from "Down Under" is shared. Does it tip the scale?

With beard business out of the way, Ravi and Sonia brave an unrelenting rain to pick up Ching-In Chen, a freelance writer for Hyphen Magazine. Ching-In reveals the poet within and the DriveTime Poem Room is quickly christened. And before it's all over, Ravi chimes in with a limerick he wrote when he was 13.

Aha! You did keep it.

:)

Fun guest.

See you next week.

YAY! Glad you kept the beard. It looks good in it's new form.

You guys have our weather. I'm in San Antonio so we've been getting hit with all the rain we should have been having before now but didn't.

Here's a little short vblog from me. I filmed our back area of work flooded from the recent rains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YMtVmShWhE

Keep up the goodwork Ravi and Sonya!

Ravi,
Good idea to keep the beard until Memorial Day. When the weather starts getting hot, that's the time to shave.

Before the big "reveal", with your jacket all zipped up, you reminded me of Beaker, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's lab assistant on The Muppets. Ha ha.

I liked the video comment. I might make one myself. Just have to buy a camcorder. I've always wanted one so I could analyze my golf swing. Maybe this is the complementary reason to buy one now.

Love you guys....

java -- kept and even trimmed since we shot this episode!

lehsa -- now *that's* flooded! we've yet to engage any aquamarinedriving capabilities in either of the studios.

joe c -- you can make video comments with digital point and shoot cameras... or any computers with built in cameras (like the newer iMacs). Though I'd love to see your golf swing!

Hi Ravi,

Great episode! From one beard-er to another -- welcome to the club :)

I love how you built up the suspense. It was killing me. You're a natural at this. But don't quit your day-job yet ;)

Are you going to do a counter Houdini stunt?

I can see it now...
You've seen David Blaine...
Now experience Ravi Jain!

If living in your car for a week is too much, how about just holding your breath on camera for a few minutes. LOL!

Keep up the great work!

e-kay -- you've been peering in my brain, haven't you?! I was actually thinking of some inane-Blain style stunt we could do on DriveTime (how long I can hold a mouthful of scalding coffee?)

I do like the "Drowned Alive!" tagline though. Maybe we can pinch that in the future: "Gridlocked... Alive!"

When you shave the beard off on Memorial Day, just TRY the goatee for a day or two before you go whole hog...You might like it!

Either that, or do the shaving off in the car... I think that would make for an excellent episode.

"...or do the shaving off in the car"

Is everyone inside my head?!

thanks for the tips, claire, an in-car shave is in the works. And maybe we'll take a few stops in the path from beard to clean-shaven. I could do my tribute to that later phase of the Six Million Dollar Man when Lee Majors had the moustache.

Oooh action. Just make sure you have a good vac or tarp around ya. Don't want all that hair gunking up anything in the car.

So I want to guess something being new... Studio V is a Volvo... Studio A is an Acura? I haven't gone back far enough in archives to know for sure.

Good work as always. And yeah it was alot of water we had here. More rain on the way too. About time we caught up with our yearly quota! :P

Ravi, Your reactions to the rain were fantastic.
It is that spontaneous sense of humor that you seem to have that keeps me coming back for more. Way to go.

a belated comment....

no subtitles this time... you have to decypher the accent.

sorry about the quality, but it is a phone after all.

Lehsa -- an Acura?! Studio-A is much, much mightier than that (see early episodes for continuity clues).

miles -- I just looked at the weather forecast of unending rain for the next week... which led to another age-old reaction: the shaking fist!

hey noel! Careful, keep those hands on the wheel. ;-)

As a tribute of sorts to Drivetime... I did a silent drivetime tribute. It's just me driving one night not too long ago with the radio in the background.

Enjoy!

To Lesha...
Wonderful... I just wished it could have lasted all through the guitar rendition of "Marie Elena." Now I'm looking all over to find that song...

Thanks. It was quite beautiful.

lehsa (got it right that time),
T'was Los Indios Tabajaras, and they call it Maria Elena. On iTunes. Perfect for night drive... :)

Thanks again,
Joe C.

I would totally send a video comment, but it is too early in the morning (on a Saturday, which means the afternoon) to be wearing proper clothes, so back to ol' text it is (this is the reason video phones never took off btw).

I had a friend in college whose name was Leung, pronounced "Learng". I was always like, "Where's the R?"

And we at YD are just shy of being topical for that magazine. I'm kinda American-Asian (backwards! damn!) and Rahman is Asian-British (wrong country! bullocks!). Cool way to get guests though.

Ravi,

You may want to experiment with the HALFBEARD look as I did last year. While the halfbeard is a fleeting fashion, it's worth a try.

Love the show.
