Episode Two.Two

Ravi and Sonia get back into the swing of things in the first ever true widescreen DriveTime. Meddling mice and a prominent anniversary are discussed before the two cross the river into Cambridge in search of their guest, whose name pronunciation they both ponder.

Plus a sneak preview at next week's jaw dropper.

Good show! And you guys made getting lost look fun. :D

Speaking of cats and mice... not all cats "eat" mice. I had a friend who had mice in her house. One was on the sofa and she sicced the cat on it and the cat would just play with the mouse and not actually catch it. LOL it was funny to watch.

Oh and the movie had alot of bars when it changed shades or if there was quick movement. It looked kind of weird when I watched it.

Hey lehsa -- I noticed said 'bars', as well. I may try re-encoding (this is the first time I've tried the "true widescreen" and not 16:9 embedded in 4:3)

The challenge is not to make the file size huge... I welcome all tips/advice on such matters!

we have mice too.. i'm pretty sure they're nesting behind the stove. they run in through the gas burners whenever you startle them. my cat couldnt care less...

Hey *Love* the widescreen, but lehsa's right. I think that's some severe interlace artifact goin' on there. Amanda's new blog had a similar problem at first. Maybe they could tell you how they fixed it. (dearovlov@gmail.com).

One of my fav episodes was when you had your mechanic on. He and Steve Garfield could have a Boston accent shoot-out for the anniversary. :)

ps. If/when you fix the video prob, could you post the solution? Thx.

serra -- sorry that you've got these squatters at your place, as well. Maybe your cat can be trained to get that "eye of the tiger"!

joe c -- I'm re-encoding as we speak. One step that I initially eliminated (since it takes more time) is to first output the edited video as a .dv stream file and then encode that for web. In theory one should be able to go directly from editing program to output, but wonky things seem to happen. I've tweaked the encode settings also (selected "deinterlace", increased the data rate limit, and added a slight sharpen). We'll see if it's improved when I repost later today.

I've reuploaded the video with the new encoding, so hopefully no more "bars" or artifacting.

Looks much better now!!

BTW, I've had a mouse problem in my attic. Since I can't abide cats, I called in the professionals. I think I found where the critters were getting in, too. It's been quiet up there lately, but the true test comes when the weather starts getting cold and they look for warm places to live. Living in the country has its good and bad points.

Yay... seems as if the bars have disappeared. :D Good work guys!

Oh and you think having a few little grey furry guests is bad... try a wild snake. My mom kept asking how my new "roommate" was when I found a snake in my apt. With all the clutter I couldn't find the stupid thing for 2 days till it slithered out and hid in the bathroom and promptly vanished. Ends up I had holes under the sink I didn't know about which thankfully my dad sealed up when they came to make sure I was ok. :D

So buy some glue traps or a little cage to catch them in and be thankful it's not a snake...

Hey, great episode!

For the anniversary show, maybe you could compile footage of DriveTime's near misses. Those are always exciting. :P

I think the blooper reel is a great idea too.

Post on Craig's list to housesit a cat-- only true mousers need respond-- and I bet you'll get a bite.

In Seattle, we have rats. 6 inches+. Brazen, look you in the eye rats. Had to go back to the store and get the big traps. New garage door worked like a charm.

thanks all for the mouse tips! And one magnanimous DriveTime viewer *is* going to lend us not one, but two cats! I think said party will be upgraded from "viewer" to "donor"!

worm 2 -- some fave pubs of mine:

Publick House

Delux

River Gods

James' Gate (local fave)

I'd go beyond the Quincy Market/Landsdown street area if possible!

Off topic, but could you *please* put the "Three Abreast" episodes on YouTube? Especially the one where they are stuck in the basement... I love that one.
