Episode Nine

It's a full house, as Liz Tambascio and Dale Cumberbatch visit DriveTime to talk about Shangosoul -- a dance and personal training company. Plus, Ravi and Sonia are "blinded by the light".

And in a shocking coda to the episode, Ravi tends to a disabled Studio-A amid sub-freezing temperatures.

Playback off of archive.org seems a little sluggish. I'll check again in the a.m.

congrats mario, you're first out of the gate! the video files are indeed being hosted for free.

pros: it's free!

cons: performance can vary and I've had difficulties with the upload process on more than one occasion.

ole, you get a Danish DriveTime shout out. And we'll save the last aebleskiver for you! (I kid you not, we have an aebleskiver pan I purchased in the town of Roskilde). Thanks for your suggestion about the microphone... it's spot on. I do have a nice shot-gun microphone that I think I could do well to pick up the "backseaters".

Hi ... Great session (9) I like the way you get 'bargains' for your local viewers. You know Ravi, you are a business man at heart!

I notice you have to set the cam for 'brightness' does it not have automatic setting for this!

I look forward to the drive time 'workout session' from the fitness studio with some smooth dancing between both of you ... Now that would be an event, although, you did not immediately warm to the idea Ravi!

Keep the pod cast coming it’s a good show.

Sorry you got a flat tire and I'm sitting in air conditioning in Florida.

Suspensful, dynamic, over-exposed ...
i love it! Did i detect fear in Liz Tambascio eyes? and garbage scowl Hosey craps the bed. awesome.
You should have done the "Bruce Banner crushes-hand-whilst-changing-tire-and turns-into-Hulk" parody.

what's an aebleskiver?

Ravi said...

brian,

if I set the exposure to automatic, it most likely will meter against the outside, thus making everyone inside appear very dark.

but you need to return steve! and the cold will envelop you in its icy talons...

brian, you get an award for responding to elements on the cutting room floor (since indeed there was a bruce banner reference)

zeeger -- a spherical danish pancake.

This is the coolest show ever, man. I'm so glad it's working out for you. I was thinking while I was watching this post that I'd be neat if you followed a typical late-night talk-show seating arrangment where host talks to the co-host for a while and then the co-host moves to the far sofa when the guest comes on. Not that I don't love Sonya, of course, but if the guest sat in front for the interview we'd see everyone.

BTW, are you driving these guests to a different location from where you picked them up or do you drive in a circle? Do they tell you ahead of time where they're going?

So again. this show rules. Great job. I can't wait to see the next episode.

A pancake......I just checked it on the web and yeah, you need these special pans for them. You took one back from Denmark? As for the back seat, maybe you should install a special camera......

Traditional aebleskiver recipe.

The egg white from 2 eggs
2 cups of buttermilk
2 cups of regular all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon of regular sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of melted butter.

Great episode, Ravi. I'm trying to set up my own show, and I learn a lot from you. Why don't you do a DriveTime "Cross Country" edition?

If you and Sonya haven't been to California's Santa Ynez Valley, you should visit Solvang, a little Danish village about 4 hours north of L.A. It's touristy and very "Sideways"-esque, but fun and picturesque. It's all-you-can-eat aebleskiver over there! ("Katwalla," Pasadena, CA)

Enjoyed the ep. As always I will look forward to future episodes. Since you have and backseaters the past few eps I would also second the idea of getting a boom mic installed.

Now I just need to get out and exercise. I find it that much harder during the winter.

headsoff -- thanks for your comments. Driving around in a circle would be a farce! (and I don't have time for that). I posted a map of my commute, for potential guests -- but I can do slight detours with enough planning. Normally Sonia would shift to the back seat for our guest portion, but as we had two guests we thought we'd keep them together. Similarly, we kept our musical guest in the music studio (aka. the backseat).

david -- the zoom should have definitely been pulled out earlier. My driving attention was needed a bit more overall in this episode, I think. But an entry zoom right off the bat is a good idea for backseat guests! Thanks.

zeeger -- thanks for the recipe! Aebleskiver are very yummy and at least in the U.S. now you can get the speciality pans. Hmmm... if I get that gridlock griddle/hotplate set-up, we could even do an in-car cooking segment!

katwalla -- if we get sponsorship (or fired from our jobs) we'll do a big cross country trek. I've never been to Solvang, but my parents have and thought it quite charming.

spi -- good to hear from you! Yup, I'll try to rig up my shotgun microphone for the next backseaters episode.

Just a quick note to say how much I've been loving the show. Watched every episode so far and they get better each time. Also a special note about the co-host who seems to be growing in confidence, especially in this episode, great to see.

Great, creative, blog and video. I found it through the http://www.shangosoul.com/ web site that posted their interview,
* found them through Body Evolver
* found them through EDGE Boston
* found EDGE through a friend
Isn't the Internet great? Obviously a slow day here at the Bed and Breakfast but have enjoyed the new info I got from your interviews. THANKS

Hey Dave! A JP B&B sounds great -- a good way for visitors to experience JP without having to bounce along in the 39 from wherever (Copley, for instance).

Keep us in mind if you have any events or announcements about the B&B. Or if you want Sonia and I to "test it out" for our viewers (hint, hint!) ;-)
