Episode Two.Seven
Ravi and Sonia welcome back DWCE alum Mitch Krpata to talk about a more "virtual" sport than footy: video games. Krpata, video game reviewer for The Phoenix, explains all the hubbub about two new video game platforms being released this weekend and offers his opinions on both.
Plus, in a spur of the moment DriveTime first, Ravi stops for a DriveTime Remote Segment to talk to some young lads waiting in line for the Playstation 3 and comes back with his own prize.

doughnuts for everyone!
p.s. i work about a mile from the BB corporate HQ. i know some people on the inside. maybe...just maybe. :)
It's a new era of commenting/responding after last week's gumpfest, so worm 2 you are elevated to be first out of the gate!
I just read a follow-up on boston.com that those poor souls were given the proverbial short end of the stick!
Mm, Donuts! I want to see more of the Remote Segments!
Check out *this* piece of news! Consider yourselves lucky!
carlbanks -- dangle donuts in remote locations and you *will* see more DriveTime Remote Segments!
yowsers joe c -- The hours of training on first-person shooter titles (Mitch, can you provide some examples?) comes into play! I consider myself to be *very* lucky to have gotten in and out of the mob without any wounds (and with a donut!)
Would you like some mass consumerism with your donut, sir? ;)
All of the horror stories, as in the article joe c posted, just go to show that marauding space aliens aren't half as frightening as human beings who want something. Sounds like Waiting for a PS3 will be the next great survival horror game.
The episode turned out great! Thanks for having me on.
trevor -- maybe I can actually whip up some limited-edition dowiinuts for the Wii debut on Sunday? You've ushered in the era of moderated comments on DriveTime, by the way.
Hope it was painless!
mitch -- thanks for joining us! It was good fun.
I'm inspired to play with my PlayStation 2 this weekend... hip to be square!!
Congratulations on the success of DriveTime. This is a beautiful concept on several levels. I gather, from the comments, that you've inspired many people to do something creative with their otherwise unused time.
If you'll do a vacation edition of DriveTime in Southeast Kansas I'll bring doughnuts for you.
Ravi, you asked Mitch if he played video games as a kid, and I am still laughing. I am his mom and I am here to say that, YES -- yes, indeed -- he sure did! Lots and lots of them! Mitch is the man, no?? I love DriveTime! Keep up the good work!
hey eric dutton -- thanks for the kansas invite... you never know, we might just take you up on it!
linda k -- we welcome all moms of guests. Nice work on a good son! He's an ideal DriveTime guest: speaks eloquently, rolls with our slapdash technical problems and is along our commute route! Let us know if you have any other kids that would make good guests. ;-)
hmm t-mobile? =) i just dont get it, i mean I love many things but if i had to wait in line for it, and go through all that trouble of camping out, I just wouldn't. especially if i know the price would go down, eventually. people are ridiculously impatient. oh and supposedly someone was even shot over a ps3 in the city.
i love donuts! i wuda showed up for that instead
I feel for those people waiting. I don't have that kind of cash to burn on a console. I have a computer so that is what I use for entertainment of all kinds when I'm not infront of the tv. :P
Oh and somewhere online is a movie of someone who bought a PS3 and then smashed it. O_O... if i had that kind of money to burn I wouldn't burn it to buy something I'm going to smash.
Good show as always!
If you want help making a logo for a tee I could help. :D And you could sell them through Cafepress or something where it's free and not expensive. :D

I'm a DriveTime newbie, but count me as a fan. Absolutely love the episodes I've seen thus far - this one was outstanding. Great concept.
Keep it up.
but smiles, would you wait in line for a new limited edition donut?!
thanks for the logo offer lehsa -- I may just take you up on it...
Thanks cj -- welcome aboard!
driving the duke city -- get out on Black Friday! Get up early on a day that most have off from work! I actually did make it to some shops last year well after they'd first opened. My big sale item that I snagged? Season Two of Arrested Development! Yeah!
Cool blog sir. But I have a question. How is it that you are able to put videos (or music for that matter) on your blog. I'm not as technological sound in that area. Any info would be great.
Nice suit! I've been trying to download DT on iTunes to watch on my video iPod (half the reason I bought the dang thing was to watch DriveTime on the subway and thus commute with your commute) but I keep getting error messages - am updating iTunes now so hopefully that will solve it.
Hey j.w.! My friend Steve Garfield has posted some great info on how to put video on your blog (and some good examples of video blogs)
Thanks polly! That blazer was my official Europe blazer for our Italy/France trip, so I could look like George Clooney, as we were roaming in his backyard. Re: iTunes, I will check it out. I do know there has been some slowness with the downloads from archive.org, so I'm considering posting to blip (where I've been posting the wikake videos).
thanks your royal highness midas and welcome aboard!
yuck it up civilians ... as soon as these machines network ... it's all over!
i hope you poke your eye out w/ that Wii controller.
I live in the small borough of Slatington, PA and the kids waiting at the local Kmart for a PS3 was a big highlight for the community. If they would have been able to ask for donations, I bet they would have earned enough money to buy their PS3s almost for free.
(I think they were all eating doughnuts).
brian -- we may already all be machine controlled. No Wii for me, though I did pledge to fire up the PS2 this weekend in honor of videogames.
chris engler -- please, more details on these PA donuts. Apple spice? Ye Olde Dutch Donute?
I loved the 'on the street' portion of this episode. Random guy on the street interviews make this show much more enjoyable. the donought in the mouth getting back into the car was also quite funny.
Keep up the good work!
Joel
Your Videos are so great. I'll need to take some more time to watch them.
When will I see you on TV?
thanks Joel -- we'll gladly stop for more "on the street" merriment if A) there's something of merit/interest worth stopping for and B) we're not running late for work!
usa blog -- you squeaked in with moderation enabled... hopefully I won't be "botted" in the back.
"soggy videogame buffs"
never good. hehheheeeheee ha ha.
worm 2 -- the Wiipeeps (I'm trademarking that) seemed to make it without any sogginess (in our area, at least).
I really want either a Nintendo DS or a PSP. I haven't decided which yet.
~L~
I really enjoy your descriptions. Seems to me that you are always on the move. I have an interesting blog on not so similar lines.

Been watching for a while and thought I would comment and say kudos on the remote segment!
Hello! I just found your blog and am intrigued. Please tell me how you post your videos using quicktime (rather than something like youtube) i love the simplicity of the look of the video!
Please tell! :-)
LOOK AT THIS:::
screwdriverland.blogspot.com
Just discovered this site, FUN!! I love this idea nd the guests are great. Some great questions!! Keep 'em coming, they are what makes it so fu!!
A tiny piece of advice on the question thing...just keep getting curious, allow yourself to be dumb and the best questions will come from that!! As a coach, stayiing in the curiosity is the key. When I am able to stay that way, instead of trying to figure things out...the questions allow the client to come to solution instead of me telling them what to do or leading them down some path.
The more questions I ask, the greater chance the client will come to their own solution and hence get into action to solve the problem or create something new...It if from within that will drive evolution!!
Keep up the great work!, I will be back!!
Great Videos!!!
Ravi-
Glad you are back, love the show! I am siting here thinking about a how good a donut would be right now.
Thanks for making me laugh.
Jim-
Drive Time is hysterical!
My productivity at work has drastically decreased since finding your blog.
Thanks for the entertainment - I'll pass your website onto friends.
A disclaimer... if your comment doesn't make it past moderation, you probably sounded too bot-like! (though you can see I'm pretty open to ambiguous comments as proffered by winton smith, screwdriver, and the yacht broker!)
lehsa -- I dusted off the PS2 for Thanksgiving weekend and indulged in some Lego Star Wars mania!
steve miller -- first time, long time? If time permits (and I can find parking) we'll throw in the remote segments!
lori lane -- you are too kind... "simplicity" indeed! I encode the video segments as QuickTime with the MPEG-4 codec (seems to work for everyone, as opposed to other codecs like H.264). A great resource is the freevlog.org tutorial.
florence -- thanks for the feedback and welcome aboard! I do try to play the "dumb guy" (it comes easy!) --- see the legendary first DriveTime: Weekend Edition, for example.
Jim -- what kind of donut?! I haven't had a donut since that tasty day!
Hey anonymous -- we don't want to contribute to a lack of productivity or a dip in the GDP! Think of DriveTime as your "Coffee Break Buddy"!
no wiipeeps.com yet. or my personal favorite. wiimakegreatpets.com

worm 2 -- but there's no wiikake on that list: the Nintendo version of the Wikake!
