Episode Twenty-Five

It's a TGIF commute as Ravi and Sonia welcome the co-host to the venerable New England television news magazine Chronicle, Mary Richardson (as well as a trailing camera crew.) Plus, the first instance of road rage on DriveTime and an impromptu trek to the zoo.

Excellent as usual. Ravi,I love the shirt.

DriveTime is my new addiction. I really should be doing something else right now, like eating breakfast.

brad, we just had breakfast! A DriveTime "Power Viewer Tip" for you... watch DriveTime *and* eat your breakfast at the same time.

A true convergence of consumption!

Great! You're back.

Ravi, I agreed with the sentiment in your response to Ms. Richardson's description of shows like yours as threats to mainstream media.

Vlog shows are not necessarily substitutes for other kinds of media, but are just another viewing option.

Ravi and Sonia, keep up the good work.

malindapants -- any dirt will be pre-screened in the normal, rigorous DriveTime pre-screening guest process. Information is power, they say...

Well stated, java bean rush!

Whoa. Another report on a reporter doing a report about our favorite drivetime reporters.

Makes my head spin.

I thought you showed great restraint when she opened conversation by talking smack about the studio. I don't know if I could take that from little miss traditional media with her copious advertising revenue.

I love DriveTime (and spring in Boston)

anonymous -- I don't think Mary was demeaning Studio-A. She genuinely seemed to be in the right spirit to "go along for the ride".

Overall, this "reporter experience" was a lot more fun than the previous one (but then again, I wasn't on the verge of severe illness).

Hi Ravi,
I thouroughly enjoyed this episode featuring Mary Richardson.

She was a genuine interestign and fun guest.

And the road rage! The horror!

Now I'm looking forward to seeing the Chronicle Episode featuring DriveTime. When will it be on? August?

Let me know when you drive through the zoo. I'd like to be there for that!

steve -- those road ragers were out to get us! I was afraid we'd get the first DriveTime Rearending.

I've no idea when Chronicle will air, but once I know I'll post that info on this site (or Raviblog).

Our zoo magic will happen... as soon as the zoo gets back to me. Come on zoo!

I think this interview was better than the Beyond Tomorrow one. As you said then, "Where's the spontaneity?".

The patter with Sonia, false starts, out-takes and near-accidents are a lot of what make DT so engaging.

Wow, though, Mary's producer could use a chill pill. Like, skip the second Starbucks, girlfriend.

malindapants silkwood -- let's talk (I'll bring a duffel of cash).

ted sox -- talk us up at the zoo. "Come on zoo!" I'll only let a gorilla in the car if he has a little purple hat and bowtie on.

joe c -- there was a very good vibe going on with this one and the production crew was much more akin to the DriveTime school of production than the Beyond Tomorrow school of production (not to slight BT!) Mary's producer was indeed a hoot!

ken -- I forgot about the DriveTime formula. Does this mean we stop now?! The wacky sideways shot had an eerie similarity to the exit of NEBSRA's Huck a few months ago. More clues for the DriveTime continuity hounds!

Maybe the "road rage" driver was just an over zealous DriveTime fan trying to get on the show!

Ravi said...

jonnydock -- shock tactics like running yours truly off the road will do nothing to get one on DriveTime!

Ravi,
In your reply to tedsox, you said:

"I'll only let a gorilla in the car if he has a little purple hat and bowtie on."

I'd add diaper to that list of demands. ;-)

Speaking of apes in the car, here's the perfect accessory for Studio A.

One of the things I really love about DriveTime - and noticed in this episode - is the balance between the structured talk show format and the behind-the-scenes moments that remind us that you're in a car. Great episode, great guest, bring on the monkeys!

Ravi said...

Nice steve!

joe c -- we need that monkey!

thanks tristan -- I want to see that on a T-shirt!

brian -- "Fascinating" Starpower, I would add.

thanks melanie -- the early returns on this episode indicate a good balance of banter/guest/auto! And yes, everyone lobby anyone influential you know to BRING ON THE MONKEYS! (note -- that's not Monkees, but I would welcome them, as well).

Ravi: What's up with that little eye-roll you do at the beginning when Sonia talks about her shirt? Don't mean to get you in trouble. Love the program.

Don't fear the robots! They are cuddly and play music and take care of old people!

Great episode, and I liked the Chronicle producer!

You should have another NE celebrity in Studio A: The Phantom Gourmet! You could digitally "fog" his/her face to preserve the mystery.
